Plan December: Making a Comeback

My kids are out of school, we have no more school/church/work parties, all of our Sub-for Santa gifts have been purchased, wrapped, and delivered, most of our gifts are wrapped, so I think things are finally starting to slow down. That leaves more time to enjoy the season.

Here's some of the recent highlights from Plan December:

December 12: Teacher Gifts. Homemade Hot Chocolate in mason jars

A friend gave me this awesome recipe for homeade hot chocolate. Here it is:

5 1/3 cups dry milk (the kind they have here in Mex. is whole milk, it makes it really creamy)
2 1/2 Nestle Quik
1 cup powdered sugar
3/4 cup dry creamer (the vanilla and amaretto flavors make it really yummy!)

Mix and then sift ingrediants. Place in mug and add hot water.

December 15: Juan Carlos' (3 1/2) Christmas Posada

As the teachers marched the kids out in front of all the parents, Juan Carlos made a quick break away and found me in the audience. He stayed with me for the first number and then when they pulled out the tamborines and he decided to participate. By the end he was a dancing fool. Pretty cute to watch.

December 18: Growing Tree from familyfun.com

A work in progress, but I think it's going to turn out cute.

December 18: I couldn't find any tri-beads here, so we made these "Fancy Fans" from the Dec. issue of Family Fun.

These were super easy, all you need is wrapping paper, tape, and a stapler.

Hope you are all enjoying the season!

You've had a full month! Even with a few days off and changes in plans, I'm impressed with all the fun stuff you've done.

I don't want to ruin your plan December by not getting a recipe to you, so here it is:
2 c. sugar
3 c. whipping cream
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. light karo syrup
dash of salt
1/2 can sweetened condensed milk

Combine sugar and syrup in pan, bring to a boil. Combine cream and milk in a double boiler and scald. Add scalded cream gradually to the sugar mixture never letting the mixture stop boiling. Cook to 238 or a firm ball in cold water. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Pour into lightly sprayed 9x13 pan. Let set, then cut and wrap!!

ENJOY!

I'm glad you're back to blogger so I can comment again...I know you've been here awhile, but I've been a little out of touch with blogland.

I'm gonna try the mexican milk thing, they are starting to sell it here too if you look in the right places. The last batch of hot cocoa I made was...mmmmm...just OK. I even used vanilla pudding mix in it...you would think that would have made a difference, but no.

Last year, I didn't give my kid's teachers gifts. I didn't know I was supposed to. This year, I gave them each $30 gift certificates to Macaroni Grill and have been told that was too generous. Your hot chocolate mix looks that the right combination. Wish I had read this before!
