Brain Freeze Anyone?

We were talking at dinner tonight about brain freezes-you know, when you eat something cold quickly and it gives you a momentary headache. It seems that everyone in our family gets them except for me (I've never experienced it, that I can remember) and Juan Carlos (6 yrs old), who told me in a fairly serious voice, "it's rare, Mom," that he gets one (I don't know why him saying it like that cracks me up, but it does).

I'm just wondering if any other people out there DON'T suffer from "brain-freeze". Is NOT getting a brain-freeze some kind of recessive trait like hairy knuckles (which I do have, but don't worry, the few hairs that are there are fine, short, and blond) and attached earlobes (which I do not have)?

Anyone?

Also, my kids and I don't seem to get "sugar-highs" after eating junk.

I get them and so does Dentist husband and my kids. My dad has NEVER had a cold in his life. Some doctor told him he in some small percentage who never colds (something like less than 2 percent of the world's population.)

Hello! I ran across you on my mom's blog!! I love your stories!

I never get actual "brain" freezes, but I often freeze the roof of my mouth to where it's painful! I've always though that's what a brain freeze was until a recent conversation with a friend when she told me, "No, it's actually in your head - hence the name 'brain freeze'"

It takes a lot of cold to get me one. Mostly I can chow down on ice cream with impunity.

I can't think of more than one or two that I have ever had, but unlike some of my children, I don't usually gulp down my ice cream or whatever like it is about to disappear on me. One of my children-Oldest, who is adopted, says he gets them every time he eats ice cream- but then he is a bit of a hyperchondriac- so I can't be sure :)

I get them every once in awhile if I gulp something really quickly. No hairy knuckles or attached earlobes though:)

Hey there! You know I never get them when I eat ice cream, but my Mom does all the time. Now the difference for me is when I am drinking a slushee from Sonic. Oh Heaven. Blue Coconut Heaven. Anyway...I have a tendency to seriously suck those puppies down and every once in a while, brain freeze occurs, but it never lasts more than a few seconds. Then I have the ability to gulp as fast as I want, no problem! haha

I've only gotten them when I drink a smoothie really fast. Maybe you just haven't sucked one down fast enough, Gabriela. Give it a try. :-)

We all get them. Have you ever tried to get one? Maybe just suck a large slurpee down without taking a break?
I used to work for a lawyer who told me brain-freezes are the best way to get rid of a headache. He was right.

I can even drink a coffee, extra high caffeine, right before going to sleep and still sleep soundly...
Go figure...

I get them, especially with Sonic slushes just like Stephanie. Only my favorite are the lemon-strawberry ones. Mmm...

I've heard the whole sugar high thing was a medical myth, too. Who knows?
