So Rio won.
I am shocked, really. It was pretty exciting here those last few minutes and then everything errupted when they announced it; cars honking, people cheering in the streets. This place will be partying all weekend. I just hope Guapo can make it home from work as he has to pass through Copacabana where somewhere between 500,000 and a million people gathered for the announcement.
It's exciting for Rio. If there's one thing they know how to do, it's host a party. They are definitely a warm, welcoming, energetic people that love to have a good time. Hopefully all of the other little issues like infrastructure, organization, and crime will come together over the next 6 1/2 years. (I'm not holding my breath though)

That's pretty funny. Of course Spain is disappointed, but no one really thought a European city would get it right after London.
They've got their work cut out for them! Who knows, maybe Rio will be transformed into a paragon of safety. :-)
Dear Gabriela,
I FULLY agree with you and BG.
As I wrote on BG blog, politicians don't walk on Rio's streets without security, they don't use commercial airlines, they don't use public transportation, and they don't take cabs in Rio, etc, etc, etc...
I really don't like to go to Rio, I got because it is work, but I still don't like it.
It is just a lot more money of laundry money (I am not sure if this is a expression in English).
Well, I just didn't (don't) agree with IOC decision.
I hope Guapo made home safely last night.
Fabiola
maybe you won't live there then...which would be a bummer for your relatives....
Yeah, are you guys gonna stick it out for six more years so we can all come to the Olympics? I think it would totally be worth it, don't you? :)
Yes, it proved a little embarrassing here since the President of the United States flew to meet with the IOC--during major crisis here and Chicago didn't get it.
