Juan Carlos and Julio start school tomorrow.
After three years of having my kids eat a wonderful lunch at school, it's back to packing them. I made the boys pack them tonight. At this point, I think it's probably more trouble to make them do it, but I just didn't have it in me. That's not good the night before the FIRST day of school.
Woe is me...
Speaking of school-oh my were the supply lists LONG. This is our first experience with public schools-I'm used to buying a few pencils and pens and having everything else provided by the school. The kids' school supplies covered my dining room table and cost well over $100. I think I'll need a fork lift tomorrow to get the stuff into the classroom. Juan Carlos has to take 3 reams of copy paper; Julio has to take 48 pencils. Forty-eight pencils??? I'm truly surprised I didn't have to take in 1,200 rolls of toilet paper.
Oh well.
The organizing went well, thanks for asking. The movers unpacked the stuff and took the boxes away which is the only way to go. I worked myself silly that first day and finished about 80% of the job. I did 15% the next day leaving me with just 5% that I'm saving for when I'm uptight (organizing mellows me out). It all fit in the house, so that's good.
I'm off to put the kids back in bed, again (they've been going to bed around 11:00 pm, so 8:30 pm was a bit of a shock to the system).

Wow, exciting times...
I really like the new photo...
but I miss you so much here :\
Hope all goes well for the first day. Give them a ll a big hug form their Aunt BG!
Love, BG
Good Luck with the first day! I say, HANG IN THERE with having them make their own lunches--the ONLY way to go. After a short time, they'll know that's just part of what they do.
And, I am amazed you did 80% in one day????? Awesome.
Isn't today easier now that they're in school?! Probably a lot more clean and quiet. We missed you guys in Oregon!
We rarely get a list of school supplies until after school starts and then at back to school night, the lists come home for things like ziplocks, Kleenex boxes, etc. I wish they would send them before school starts when Back to School sales still are going on.
We don't buy school supplies in Utah, except for things like hand sanitizer and Kleenex. I've always thought is was weird because growing up we always provided our school supplies. With the budget shortfalls I thought a good way to help would be to have us provide more. Of course I only have one child in school so I may be more willing to help! It definitely wouldn't cost me $100.
I was thinking to myself that you got off easy with $100 but then I remembered your kids are younger. In MN we had to buy all that stuff and WHAT a headache. This is my first year NOT buying school supplies. Bliss!
And this will be our first experience with ritzy school lunches. I can't wait. Do keep having the kids make their own lunches. They will learn to pack what they like and they'll be more likely to eat it. Sure, it's messy at first but eventually you can train them to clean it up, too.
Good luck to those kiddos on their first day of public school! I hope they like it.
Forgot to say I love the new blog title and photo, too.
Way to give the school districts a new idea for the supply list- lol.
I live in Utah too- and we have a supply list- a long one at that- my youngest is in 4th- so we have hers already, but I have to wait until classes start for my middle school and jr high lists. ugh- don't want to add that up, I can promise that.
Congrats on the super unpacker that you are! I am so jealous of your skills.
I love your new title and picture!
I hope your kids had a great first day of school today. My kids start 2 weeks from tomorrow. Some days I wish they started sooner, but other days I'm happy it's still 2 weeks away.
Zoe has a long list of school supplies that she needs this year. Shopping for clothes is much more fun than shopping for supplies!
I am so happy you are adjusting. I know it must be harder for you than it is for them ; )
I love the new header!!! It suits you!!
Good luck on their first day of school! You are awesome, as always, with you unpacking skills.
