Here's what we found in the kids' bathroom on Friday:
Along with these:
And the result:
Julio (5 yrs old) told Guapo afterwards that he "just wanted to try it without bangs".

How funny! Thank goodness he's a boy and it's summer. I remember as a kid thinking all I had to do to get rid of my bangs was cut them off, too. I don't think I tried it on myself, but my dolls all tried it "without bangs."
You gotta love Julio!
Hilarious!
Childhood fantasy: "I can do my own hair, it'll be perfect"
Just like Nettie said, gave some of my Barbies haircuts, they all ended in disaster (bad hair day Barbies had to go live with my sister’s Barbies). I also tried giving my siblings haircuts, ‘cause you know, school scissors are exactly the kind you need to achieve perfection.
Does he like it without bangs? I have three brothers and all three of them went through the "I want to try cutting my bangs" phase.I won't be surprised if JC wants to try it too!
whew, at least he didn't decide to take it all off *shudder*
good thing he's so cute!
I think lots of kids like to cut their hair. We had an incident when H was about 3 and she cut off her entire pony tail. Then she told us a shark bit her hair off. Gotta watch out for those TX land sharks!
Julio and his uncle Aaron have a great deal in common it appears. Aaron went through a scissor period himself. He created what has gone down in the family annuals as the "smiley"-- a reference to his self-conducted haircut. Very creative. We knew then he was a special kid.
Just buzz his head. :) He's a cute kid - he'll pull it off.
Cutting their own hair is something my kids haven't tried yet (knock on wood) but I'm sure it's coming.
We've had several hair-cutting experiences. M and her cousin thought it would be so fun to cut each other's hair. Big chunks right on top. J cut her bangs once. It took us a while to grow those out. Luckily, he's a boy, it shouldn't be as bad. The worst was when I was in TX for only 3 days. DH was in charge. I told him that all he had to do was put the girls hair in a pony tail. Simple, right? Apparently not. After I got home, I was doing J's hair in a pony tail and at the back of her neck, right out of the bottom was a bunch of little tiny hairs sticking straight out. I asked her if she cut her hair. Her reply was, "No, daddy did!!" Yep she was right, daddy did it because he couldn't get that piece to stay up. He's since been banned from doing the girls hair.
at least he did it to himself- my cousin cut off my curls when i was little - playing beauty shop at my grandmas house
What kids will do when no one is around! My husband is a fanatic about cutting my son's hair (the only boy) so he HATES getting it cut. Hopefully that will keep him from trying it on his own.
Now my 3-year-old daughter on the other hand will try this someday, I'm sure.
LOVE that boy! You've just gotta take the bull by the horns sometimes in life you know! : ) It is so funny how in every family there's a story like this one. My niece decided to give herself a "haircut" but took a 2"X2" chunk right out of the top middle....I still remember her mom's face.....makes me laugh even now!
After reading all of these stories I guess I've had it pretty easy in this department (SO FAR!!). Chunks of hair and ponytail removal???? Aggggh. Makes Julios little pile of hair look insignificant! :)
Oh that is sooo cute!!! You got to love their little independent spirits.
Sorry that it has taken me so long to get back to you . . . Denny comes later in the season. I don't want to spoil the surprise but I fear that I might have ruined some of it for you. I am soo sorry. But, it is a sweet love story.
That is such a fear of mine...!!!
None of my kids ever did the hair-cutting thing. I think they were abnormal. I agree with the "thank heavens he's a boy" comment. My girlfriend's daughter came into the livingroom one day holding an 18" ponytail. (Yup, cut it off right at the skull.) Pixie cut here we come!
How does he feel about the new look?
He was totally un-phased by having a bad hair day. Guapo tried to even it out, but it still looks kind of funny.
I am laughing that you stopped to take a picture of it.
We just read a "Junie B. Jones" book tonight that dealt with this same subject. I believe she called them "Sprigs".
I hope he likes his "sprigs".
