Parenting Highlights...

Yesterday Julio got baptized. It was a great experience watching him prepare for it the last few weeks. He was very aware of what he was doing and took it very seriously. The first thing he said to me yesterday morning was, "Today's my baptism day!!!"

We chose the wrong day to do it. Yesterday was the election for the mayor of Big City. Brazilians are required by law to vote; if they don't vote they are fined, they can't receive a passport and they can use any government provided services. Interesting, huh? Understandably so, almost everyone participates which means A LOT of traffic.

So not many came, but those who did made a lot of effort to get there and we appreciated it. The water was very cold (and slightly brown, eww), but Julio didn't complain a bit. Juan Carlos said a sweet prayer, Margarita sang "I'm Trying to Be Like Jesus" very well, I gave a talk, and Guapo preformed the baptism.

In the end I was glad it was as small as it was. It seemed really special and very much a family affair.

How special for your kids to be baptized in different countries! That will make the memories even more special.

And sorry about the other- but they do say opposition in all things.

Congratulations, Julio! That is so nice to have your siblings and parents participate in your program. You are blessed to have a Dad who holds the Priesthood and was able to baptize you. :-)

Just caught up on your blog, Gabi. Besides the creative writing and allowing us "inside," I must say that the photo of the cat is right up there with the best. Looks like he's wearing some kind of modish, cool kitty glasses...

What’s everyone doing for safety precautions for Halloween? My husband came across an article (http://i-newswire.com/pr220892.html) with some info about background checking neighbors. I thought that may be a little overboard but it had some other good suggestions for some precautions I haven’t thought about. Last year my youngest son came down with a massive fever after Halloween. I almost thought about just taking the kids to our church’s fall festival this year instead of door-to-door to prevent that from happening again. I don’t know yet. What’s your advice? Am I over-reacted or just being a concerned mom?
